Transcending The Seduction Of Addictions:
Such As Work, Approval, Food, Exercise, Intoxicants, Sex, Gambling, Or Control

You can benefit from this workshop whether you are deeply engaged in addictions or only have occasional addictive behavior and/or over-indulgences and are looking to understand them and move towards clearing them.

We will explore a broad spectrum of addictions including behaviors not readily seen as addictions at first glance.

This workshop is for those who:

Ø      Want to understand addictive patterns and over-indulgence in others and themselves within a safe, non-shaming environment.

Ø      Want help clearing addictions including work, approval, food, exercise, intoxicants, victimhood, belief systems, sex, being right, gambling, anger, perfectionism, dogmatic religiosity, smoking, control and others?

Ø      Desire to build an inner fullness that alleviates trying to fill up through addictions.

Ø      Wish to increase their overall enjoyment of life.

It is common for us to unconsciously attempt to make up for unmet needs through addictive patterns.

For example; if our unmet need is for self worth, we will initially feel benefited by getting someone to approve of us, distracting us from our own lack of self-approval. This can lead to an addiction to approval seeking while ignoring the self-destructive results. Example; sacrificing what is true for us and doing what someone else wants to get their approval. This is an act of self-betrayal and leads to lowered self-worth and then to a deeper addiction to outside approval to compensate.

Identify the true unmet need and find a healthy way to meet it, and the drive to addiction will fade away. If the underlying need has not been met, stopping one addictive habit will typically lead to a substitute addiction. Such as stopping smoking but substituting it with overeating.

Addictive behavior can also be a way to avoid feelings, uncomfortable memories, hurts, or facing areas of life that we do not feel skilled in. For example; using intoxicants or burying oneself in work could be used to avoid facing a difficulty in relationship.

One focus of this workshop will be to uncover our true underlying needs and identify healthy ways to get them met. Another will be to address the feelings, uncomfortable memories, hurts, and areas of life that we do not feel skilled in so there is no longer a need to escape into addiction to avoid them.

Some examples of ways addictions can affect us:

>     Feeling shamed by others or ourselves.

>     Costing us heavily in the area of finance.

>     Damaging or risking our physical health.

>     Alienating loved ones.

>     Leaving us with little time to spend on other important areas of our lives.

>     Feeding behaviors of hiding, withholding or lying to others and ourselves.

>     Losing employment.

>     Lowering our sense of self-worth.

>     Impeding our ability to think clearly, grow and learn.

You are invited to join in a safe, non-shaming environment to clear some addictive behaviors.

Some of the benefits to be gained are:

Ø      Grounding in a deeper confidence in yourself.

Ø      An expanded level of passion and creativity.

Ø      A deeper appreciation of you & those you love.
