This climbing guide is the result of Kelly's passion for climbing. It came from an era when Kelly was going to the mountains on his own or with friends to develop new routes 4 or 5 times per week, weather permitting.
After being asked many times for the location of the routes, their gradings and route finding descriptions, Kelly eventually decided to create a guide book so others could enjoy the beauty of Barrier Bluffs.
Barrier Bluffs is an area that can accommodate climbers of every ability, whether just beginners or pushing the extremes. It is a beautiful environment with easy access and a variety of styles and grades of climbs.
Along with photos and descriptions of 113 different routes this ninety-one page guide book has climbing photos, drawings, cartoons and adventure stories that all combine to paint a picture of the history of the development of this area.
The book itself is bound and made in a 4"x6" size that allows the guide to be easily carried in a cargo pocket to be referred to while climbing some of the multi-pitched routes.
Since the publication of Barrier Bluffs The Guide, there has been a continuation of new route activity, mostly of sports routes in the 'Yellow Wall' area. Some of the Barrier Bluff's routes (old and new) are listed in some sports-climbing guides but to date this is the only guide that includes the traditional style routes, and lists routes from the whole expanse of the Barrier Bluffs area. It covers routes on the Cambodian Wall, the Crowsnest Wall, the Candy Kiss Wall, the Windy Wall, the Yellow Wall, the Berlin Wall, and the Slogger's Dream Wall.
